Christie Denton – Pediatric Speech Therapist in Mechanicsville, VA

Helping Kids Thrive with Speech Therapy

Hi, I’m Christie Denton

I am a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with over 20 years of experience supporting children with a wide range of communication needs, using an engaging, individualized approach that helps them build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and thrive at home, school, and in their communities.

Why I love what I do:

What I love most about being a Speech-Language Pathologist is helping individuals find their voice, build meaningful connections, and gain confidence in communication, while partnering with families to celebrate progress and support success in ways that matter most to them

Why I’m passionate about in-home care:

I’m excited about providing in-home therapy because it allows me to support children in the environments where they live, learn, and communicate every day, creating meaningful, functional experiences while partnering closely with families to help skills carry over into daily life

What does a Speech Therapist Do?

Speech-language pathologists (also known as speech therapists or SLPs) help kids communicate—whether they’re late to talk, hard to understand, or struggling to express themselves. They also support kids with feeding, swallowing, and social interaction. SLPs focus on:
Speech sounds – helping kids say words clearly so others can understand them

Language development – building vocabulary, following directions, and expressing ideas

Social skills – learning how to have conversations, ask questions, advocate for their needs, and take turns

Stuttering – supporting smoother, more confident speech

Feeding and swallowing – helping with picky eating, chewing, swallowing challenges, and texture sensitivities.

Speech therapy gives kids the tools to express themselves and connect with the people around them—at home, in school, and in the world.

How my practice is special

one
Real-World Communication That Matters

I focus on helping children apply communication skills in meaningful, everyday situations—not just during therapy sessions. Whether at home, school, or in the community, my goal is to build skills that improve daily interactions and independence.

two
Social Communication & Emotional Regulation Expertise

With experience in social skills groups and pragmatic language intervention, I support not only communication development but also the emotional and interpersonal skills needed to build relationships, navigate challenges, self-advocate, and succeed socially.

three
Collaborative, Individualized Family Support

I partner closely with families, caregivers, and other professionals to create personalized therapy plans that reflect each child’s strengths, needs, and goals. By making families active participants in the process, I help maximize progress both during and beyond therapy sessions.
