ADAPTIVE & THERAPEUTIC EQUIPMENT

Adaptive & Therapeutic Equipment Support

At Coral Care, we help families navigate the often complex process of identifying, requesting, and securing adaptive and therapeutic equipment for their child — with clinical care, coordination, and support every step of the way.

Equipment recommendations are always based on your child’s functional needs, daily routines, and goals, and are made collaboratively with you and your provider.

What Is Adaptive or Therapeutic Equipment?

Adaptive and therapeutic equipment can support a child’s mobility, posture, independence, safety, and participation in everyday activities. This may include items such as:

  • Adaptive seating or activity chairs
  • Walkers, gait trainers, or wheelchairs
  • Standing frames
  • Adaptive strollers or car seats
  • Fine motor or self-care equipment that requires vendor or insurance coordination

Your provider will only recommend equipment when it is clinically appropriate and meaningful for your child’s daily life.

How the Equipment Request Process Works

Equipment requests at Coral Care happen in several thoughtful steps to ensure the right fit — clinically and practically.

Clinical Identification

During a therapy session, your provider may identify that specific equipment could support your child’s progress. They’ll talk with you about the recommendation and document the clinical reasoning.

Agreement & Intake

If moving forward, you’ll be asked to:

1. Review and sign the Equipment Evaluation Agreement

2. Complete a short Equipment Intake Form

These forms allow our team and your provider to coordinate efficiently with equipment vendors and insurance, and help prevent delays.

Vendor Coordination

Your provider will:

Coordinate with equipment vendors

Support evaluations, demos, or fittings if needed

Prepare required documentation, such as letters of medical necessity

Families are not expected to manage vendor communication on their own.

Equipment Use & Training

Once equipment is approved and delivered, your provider will support training and use of the equipment during regular therapy sessions so it can be used safely and effectively in daily routines.

Equipment Administrative Fee

Securing adaptive equipment often involves significant work outside of therapy sessions.

Because insurance only reimburses for direct treatment, Coral Care charges a one-time $250 Equipment Administrative Fee per request.

This fee covers work such as:

  • Writing details of medical necessity
  • Completing vendor and insurance paperwork
  • Coordinating with equipment vendors
  • Supporting insurance review or follow-up
