What most "summer slide" advice misses

You've heard of the summer slide. This is the version no one warns you about.

Most summer slide advice is about reading and math. But your child's school speech, OT, and PT sessions stop over the break too. Skills built all year can slip in weeks, and take months to rebuild.

The slide everyone talks about

Academic loss

Reading levels and math facts fade over the break. Worth watching, and tutoring centers have it covered.

The slide we focus on

Developmental loss

Communication, fine motor, balance, feeding, and self-regulation regress when therapy pauses. This is what our licensed providers keep moving.

Who summer support helps most

If any of this sounds like your family, summer is the moment.

Four common reasons families reach out before fall.

Gets help at school, but loses it in June

School sessions stop in June, leaving a gap right when consistency matters most.

On an IEP, but didn't qualify for ESY

Extended School Year only covers a small group. If your child wasn't approved, summer can mean no support at all.

Stuck on a clinic waitlist all year

Hospital outpatient programs run 3 to 6 months. We can have a licensed provider at your door in about two weeks.

No diagnosis, but you're noticing something

Maybe a teacher raised a flag, or maybe it's a feeling. You don't need a diagnosis to reach out. A concern is enough.

What we keep moving over summer

Three kinds of support, one provider network, one intake.

Many children work on more than one. We match you with the right licensed provider for each.

Speech therapy

Words, sounds, and connection.

  • Late talking and language delays
  • Articulation and clarity
  • Social communication
  • Stuttering
  • Feeding and swallowing

Occupational therapy

The skills of daily life.

  • Fine motor and handwriting
  • Sensory processing
  • Big feelings and self-regulation
  • Dressing, feeding, self-care
  • Focus and everyday independence

Physical therapy

Strength and movement.

  • Gross motor milestones
  • Balance and coordination
  • Strength and core stability
  • Toe walking and gait
  • Keeping up physically with peers
How it works

Three simple steps to a summer with no gap.

1

Tell us about your child

Tell us what you're noticing. No referral, no diagnosis, no waiting room. Our care team takes it from there.

2

We match you with a provider

We pair your child with the right licensed provider, then verify your insurance up front.

3

They come to your door

Your provider comes weekly and works where your child is most comfortable. You see real progress, all summer.

Why summer is the right time

Less on the calendar. More room to make it stick.

The school year is packed. Summer gives families the time to build a steady routine, so your child starts fall strong instead of starting over.

  • No school-day conflicts to work around
  • Closes the gap left when school services pause
  • Skip the 3 to 6 month hospital waitlist
  • Build a relationship with one provider before fall
Care you can trust

Licensed providers. Real relationships. Covered by insurance.

Every provider is licensed, background-checked, and experienced with kids. We verify your benefits before the first session, so you know your cost up front.

Licensed and background-checked

Average 10+ years of pediatric experience across speech, OT, and PT.

The same provider every week

Not a rotating door of faces. One person who knows your child and your home.

No surprise bills

In-network with major commercial plans. Most families pay $20 to $40 per visit.

Common questions

Summer slide questions, answered.

Is the summer slide really a concern for therapy skills, not just academics?+
Yes. When weekly speech, occupational, or physical therapy pauses for the summer, many children regress on hard-won skills like communication, fine motor control, balance, and self-regulation. Recovering that ground in the fall can take weeks or months, which is why consistency over the break matters.
Is this academic tutoring or summer school?+
No. Coral Care provides licensed speech, occupational, and physical therapy. We do not offer reading, math, or test prep. Our providers work on developmental and physical skills, the kind a clinician supports, not classroom subjects.
My child already gets speech at school. Why add this over summer?+
School-based services stop when school does, and they're built around classroom goals. Summer support keeps your child practicing through the break and can work on a broader set of goals at home, so progress carries forward instead of resetting.
How is this different from Extended School Year (ESY)?+
ESY is decided by your school's IEP team and only covers children at clear risk of significant regression, so many kids don't qualify. Coral Care is open to any family. You don't need an IEP, an ESY approval, or a diagnosis to start.
Do I need a referral or a diagnosis?+
In most cases, no. You can start with an evaluation. If your insurance requires a referral, our care team helps you navigate it. A concern is enough to reach out.
Will my insurance cover it, and how fast can we start?+
We're in-network with major commercial plans, and most families pay $20 to $40 per visit. We verify your benefits before the first session. Most families start within about two weeks, with no waitlist.
